Definition
it is the growth of teeth through the gums in the mouth of infants and children.
usually begin by 6-8 months of age.
Symptoms
child wants to put his fingers into mouh
increased salivation an dsaliva drooling
restlessness and disturbed sleep ,iriitability
fever
swelling in gums cheek flush ,cheek rash
loss of appetite
why does it happen ?
during teeth eruption there is increased pressure on to the periodontal membrane
MAnagement
Symptomatic-
1.anaesthetic gel to be applied onto the affeted site by the parent 3-4 times a d ay
2.massage the gums
3.antipyretic for fever-acitoaminophen ,ibuprofen but not aspirin
if fever stll persists or is moer than 100.5 F ,refer to a paediatrician
4.teethers -are the appliances which are chewable to bite .they apply pressure and gives relief .
5.wipe the area with cold cloth or provide a cold teether.
6.Reassurance to the parent
teethers can be made of rubber or plastic.
they should be sterile and clean
should not be made of PVC or pthalate.
